A Poor Investment

The Telegraph quotes Professor Mike Weed, of Canterbury Christ Church University, as saying that the London Olympics "is a poor investment made by the treasury on our behalf".

As a study, published in the British Medical Journal, reveals that there is precious little benefit in terms of a health or financial legacy from hosting the Olympics.

No surprises there then!

  1. Hosting the Olympics was more about political standing than anything else....Hitler used the Berlin Olympics to showcase his political success just as we did in 1948 in the last London games.....Hosting the Olympics is a perfect opportunity for self expression. (POSE) Many people have made a fortune out of delivering the Olympics....Hosting the Olympics is not an investment, it is purely expenditure...The people of East London will be left with a white elephant that will cost them dearly in the future to maintain.
Ordianary people will be unable to attend the more prestigious events as tickets will go to the great and good....The poor will just pick up the tab.

I just fear we are going to make ourselves look stupid on the world stage with our crazy Nanny culture and PC diktats. I also feel the security costs and the added likelyhood of a terror attack at the games will make London a prison city for a few weeks.
